Floss Over Filter Outlet Is Dirty?

My filter was too strong, so I used a rubberband to put some floss over the outlet. I notice it gets dirty very quickly- it basically turns completely brown by the end of the week.

Should I be replacing it every week? Those of you who use this solution to slow the current, do you have the same issue?

It's not that uncommon. As it's working purely as mechanical filtration and not biomedia, wash it, and the filter floss only! under the tap. Wring it out in the old tank water before you put it back, or just replace it.
