I feed my catfish cubed zucchini that I cut myself to remove as much as possible. I feed a couple cubes every few days and for a day or two after I see small pieces of it floating around in the tank. Is this a problem?
anything that rots and breaks down in the water can produce ammonia, which can harm fish and other aquatic organisms.
it is best to remove uneaten food within a short period of time.
I normally Blanche but I might start skewering with a fork. Can I use any ordinary dinner fork? And do I need to boil it before putting in tank? Just in case soap residueSkewer the zucchini with a fork or something similar, so it stays in one place, and you can see if it's been eaten
If any is left after a day or two, remove from the tank...a fork or skewer makes uneaten veggies easy to retrieve
Blanched or slightly steamed veggies will get eaten much quicker than raw ones
Instead of a regular dinner fork, get something like in the link below...keep in your fish supplies, away from regular forks...rinse in hot water before first use, then after each use...no soap, plain hot tap water...stainless steel is bestI normally Blanche but I might start skewering with a fork. I have a stainless steel fork which I normally eat with, I don’t have a lot of money at the moment to buy another so I’ve attatched a photo of the one I have. Could I use this if prepared properly or should I definitely not use?Instead of a regular dinner fork, get something like in the link below...keep in your fish supplies, away from regular forks...rinse in hot water before first use, then after each use...no soap, plain hot tap water...stainless steel is best
Depending on your tank depth, you may find one that extends up out of the water, so you don't even have to put your hands in the tank to retrieve leftover veggies

I currently already use one of these because I can’t reach the back of the tank with my hand lolI use a fork for zucchini for my plecos and use a grabber tool to lower it into the tank . Very easy to remove the fork after a day or so by using the grabber . Available on AmazonView attachment 157890
