Floating Bogwood

Hi ya all, i have just joined as a member and i am looking forward to talking you guys in the months and years ahead.I have just set up my tank 5 days a go,i,m going for more of a planted,less fish option and now about to start planting.To day i bought 2 nice size pieces of bogwood and i can see from soaking it i,m going to have trouble keeping it on the bottom!! Can some one please help in suggesting how i can anchor it down to stop it floating away,i suppose the obvious (to me anyway) is some form of rock or slate would this have any harmfull affects on the water ?. Looking forward to your advice on this matter . Thx

Welcome to the forum.
Rock or slate should be fine but are you certain it's bogwood? I don't mean that to sound rude but I've never had a problem with bogwood floating.

How long have you soaked the wood for?

It could be cork bark.

My bog wood floated for 2 weeks.
had to put slate on it.
Then it made water very cloudy, There was an article in practicle fishkeeping that said this should be harmless to fish.
To clear it I done small water change daily and added a carbon pad to the filter, all good now

Thx guys for your feed back it was sold to me as bogwood and i,m fairly shore it is,its been soaking now 24hrs and i think it is becoming less bouyant as i type as it takes on board water perhaps a couple of days soaking and it will be fine fingers crossed. I did phone the shop The Goldfish Bowl (Oxford) and they suggested i drill holes in it to help saturation do you think this would help or are they on a wind up!! lol Thx guys again, your input is much appreciated

Well they say not to brush it,so i dunno if thats linked to it if you know what i mean...maybe that would make it worse. If ti was only cheap(which isnt really the point )then give it ago but i personally wouldnt.Id keep soaking it for a few more days,it doesnt do it any harm it more likely would help to make the water not go that tea colour
