i have a biowheel from a filter that i dont use anymore...its the smallest biowheel and is currently floating in my 5 gal dp tank. its goes with the current spinning and floating around the tank laying on its side. its very mature and i can "see" the gunk that is bacteria.

is this helping my tank? if so i think ill just leave it..it blends in nicely and some of the cherry shrimp hang out on the ledges

It is probably processing some ammonia. Do you have another filter or something that is expected to take over the job in that tank?

lol yes i upgraded the built in filter with a 10 gal internal. the puffer seems to do just fine with the quick current and it can only be helping the tank

I think I would leave the biowheel floating in the tank for a few weeks to make sure the new filter gets seeded properly.
