Was looking after a neighbours tank, wife went round today few fish dead. Nitrates / Nitrites high, detected amonia, put in a few bacteria balls, and changed 1/4 of the water - 30 litres.

Noticed they have a filter that is garbage.... What stress!

Very possibly! There are a few dead, but the tank is in such a position that I couldn't get all of them out!

After getting dead fish out, and doing big water changes fish loss has stopped.

Not sure they have been doing water changes, they have loads and loads and loads of fry, hopefully all ok now.

All things now seem ok, glad to have prevented fish loss.

Tell your neighbour that a robber came and took em'... Then you go back to your house and look after them! :hey:

Go easy on them. Explain your observations and concerns rationally.
You may be surprised how receptive and grateful they may be to the info.
You do have to live next door after all and don't need a war I would think.
