Hi everyone,

Over the last couple of days I have noticed my clown loaches flicking, but there are no white spots. Could this be anything other than ich? Parameters are normal and there are no other symptoms.

I have ich treatment already, so should I treat now under the assumption it is ich, or wait to see if spots appear? I am familiar with the ich cycle so know that the spots only appear once the parasites have actually burrowed into the fish. Would the treatment harm them if I have the diagnosis wrong?

I added some neons a couple of weeks ago so that could be where it came from.

Thanks :)

Have you done a big water change recently? This can sometimes cause fish to flick, as the fresh water changes the water composition dramatically.

No, the last waterchange was 7 days ago (I am due another tomorrow).

The stats are normal.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 10

is there anything that you have
changed like food dechlorinator
any additives that you add to the tank

I ran out of frozen bloodworm last week so have been feeding them flake food and algae wafers instead. Nothing else is new.

Indeed. So should I medicate to be on the safe side?

Edit: Just thought os something that changed! I lowered the temp last week from 80F to 78F. Could this cause the flicking?

I haven't, thats the point. I want to know if I should treat them now, or if I should wait and see if spots appear.

So you think I should treat even though I am not sure it is ich? Will that harm them or will it be ok?

up the temp don't treat with
a treatment aerate the tank
a bit more as upping the temp
depletes the oxygen inn the
water give it 24 to 48 hrs
and see what happens if there
is any spots then treat as normal

I wouldnt add Ick medicine. If you add it and the disease is not ick, it could kill them. Do as the biffster says, up the temp to 28C

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
What's is the make of the test kit you are using.

Do any of the clown loaches look thin.
Is there any tiny bubbles on the clown loaches body.
