I added a flame gourami to my tank today. It seems very quiet and minds it's own business, but I did notice it chase one of the neon tetra's today.

I'm just wondering if he is all alone, and should I go get another flame gourami?

What size tank have you got him in there rodeo-clown?

I would suggest gouramis be kept at a male to female ratio of 1:2 atleast. So your tank might not be big enough.

I think you could add one or two more. I think by flame gourami you mean honey or dwarf gourami. Am i right>?

I think it is a dwarf gourami. The label at the LFS said 'flame gourami'.

Here is a pic of it. Are you able to tell if it is male or female? Also, will any other type of gourami be OK or do I need to add two more flame gourami's?

Its male for sure, female dwarfs are a plain silver colour. The reason it will chase your smaller fish is because they are territorial and grumpy I reckon, especially around feeding time. My flame hasn't caused any damage to my fish, they have learned to move out the way when he's sneaking up from behind...... :fish:

If you add some floating plants it should reduce his aggression considerably. The tank he is in is about 20 something gallons right? You could get 2 females for him. Otherwise, maybe get some pearl gouramies or a couple of banded or thick-lipped females.

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: That is 1 lovelyyyyy fish, i think adding the plants are a good idea. Pearl Gourami's are so beautiful and are a peaceful species, although it can come down to the individuel fish. I have a female Pearl and 1 male Golden Gourami, they squabble every now and again who's going to be boss. The Pearl's a difinate in my own opinion. Good luck with the tank

Best wishes Shanna
