are flame gourami's just a color variation of a dwarf gourami? or is it a type of honey?

Lol - both 'Flame' is the name often attached to any of a number of dwarf AND honey color morphs. Ignore the name assigned by your LFS. Look at the scientific name instead - Colisa lalia is the dwarf, Colisa sota/chuna is the honey.

Alternatively, find yourself a pic of the fish you're asking about on google or else post a pic of the real thing (if you have some in mind). Then they can be identified for you
