Hello all:

There are so many brands of Flake Foods on the market today. I wanted to share with you all today about the new Hikari Flake Tropical product. It's new and my fish love them. The texture is better for smaller fish because the flake is not hard to break up (eat etc).

Hikari Flake Tropical

Also, I was using TetraColor Tropical Flakes & TetraMin Tropical Flakes. Both are good flakes, but the fish tend to race for the Hikari brand more  I do use Hikari frozen foods (Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp & Daphnia) and I was happy to hear them making Flakes too.

I was thinking about trying Wardley Total Tropical Flake Food to see how the fish like that brand. So, what's your favorite brand of flakes or any you can recommend?

Update list of brands:

Ocean Nutrition Formula One

Wardley Total Tropical Flake

TetraMin® Tropical Flakes

TetraColor Flakes

TetraMin® Pro Tropical Crisps

ColorBits Granules

Omega One Veggie Flakes

Omega One Freshwater Flakes

Nutrafin's Product Line of Flakes and Tablets

Hi Melfice :)

This is an excellent idea for a topic. I know I'll be learning a lot about the different products available before it's done. :D

I've been using Ocean Nutrition's Formula One flake food. I like it because it's high in protien. They make it with 50% fish, so it should be nutritious. On the downside, it smells like fish too.

I pay $8.99 for a 5.5 oz. (154g.) container of it.

I use wardleys premium tropical flakes and wardleys premium shrimp pellets and my fish seem to enjoy both, they never turn their noses to it (of course gold barbs are known to be quite aggressive eaters) but they seem to like them. I just got some tetra freeze dried bloodworms, does anyone have any opinions on these or what would be even better for them? I'm trying to get some variety in their diet, so any more fish food info would be great (not live preferably as I'm in a dorm and dunno if my room mate would like a culture of bugs in the dorm...)

Thanks Inchworm! Also, thanks for sharing the brand you use. I want to give that flake a try. High protien will show beautiful colors I hear. As for the smell lol I'll get used to it. :D

I use Hikari Frozen and Freeze dried Bloodworms. You might want to try the frozen version. You will be surprised how the fish act when they start eating the life like worms

I was thinking about doing frozen, I'm kinda new at this variety thing, usually I've been doing flakes, got the freeze dried worms today, saw frozen wasn't sure if I wanted to try that or if freeze dried would be just as good just less work, with frozen you have to thaw it first right? what's the best way to go about thawing? just sit it out for a while or what?

You don't need to thaw anything :) If you use the cube sized food, just drop one into the tank. It will thaw fast inside the water and the fish love it.

Omega One veggie flakes. They have fish as the main ingredient, including salmon which helps with red/orange coloration, and spirulina which helps with blue/green. They have a couple different formulas, but it is all high quality flake. Incindentally, i never got my Hikari sample. ~sniffle~ Some jerk probably stole it from the mail as usual. :/

Recently i'v been using varioud 'Sera' brand foods. The company offers a lot of various food for any fish and the products are great value

I use TetraMin - It's worked for me for ages and the fish love it.

Every couple of days I also use Frozen Bloodworms and artemia cubes for protein

I use OSI for 3 of my tanks cause they wont touch anything else but for my 125g i use a no name brand K-Mart brand witch those fish seem to go nuts on, they even prefer it more than bloodworms, freaky huh.
As for other foods in my 3 tanks i feed them 15cubes of frozen bloodworms perday and they seem to love those tetrabits but they are to small for my fish's mouths so i had to stop buying them, i also feed them mealworms witch they dont mind but it takes a bit of effort for them to eat them

Good feedback guys. Sorry to hear that you did not get your sample.

I use Nutrafin flake, my fish seem to like it over Wardley's (the other brand I've tried).

I use Big Al's spirulina tabs and sinking catfish sticks too. Big Al's is a local chain.
