My lfs told me that five banded barbs are a friendly non aggressive barb and will do well in a community tank, will they be ok with my rasboras and black phantom tetras?

If you're going to have barbs then these are a very good choice. They're a sort of substitute for the very nippy and often aggressive tiger barb because they look similar.

But, bear in mind that all barbs are potential fin nippers, particularly if stressed by, for example, poor water conditions, hunger, too few in the group. You need at least six and ten would be better.

Ive got 6 rasbora and 8 black phantom but thinking of adding 2 more phantoms cos i ended up with 7 female and only 1 male. If i added 10 five bandeds that would finish my tank apart from a couple of ottos or peppered corys.

If you had 10 barbs, 10 phantoms, 6 rasbora you'd need a 150L tank for them to be happy. If you add in otos and corys they need to be in groups, preferably minimum six each so you'd then need a minimum 200L tank.

Both of my LFS's said to use the rule of thumb of 1" of fish per every 2 Litres of water...

They want to sell you as many fish as possible, so they'll tell you whatever allows them to do that. If you follow that rule you'll be overstocked. You have to consider the welfare of the fish.

I dont plan on having 45 fish in the tank ya know. Im thinking my 6 Rasboras, 8 Black Phantoms, 8 Five Banded Barbs, and 4 Ottos.

I ended up getting 10 Five Banded Barbs today. My LFS made a trip to Holland where they get fish from and were lucky enough to get some. By far my favorite fish!
