Has anyone heard about Juwel or Jebo fish Tanks??

They came highly rated by LFS...........

Can't choose now............
Apparently Juwel are slightly more expensive then Aquaone but also better.....

Can anyone comment but also on Jebo tanks.....

thanks

it depends a little what you want to do with it.

virtually any of these package deals you'll need to upgrade the filtration so bear in mind that extra cost.

if your likely to want to have a serious go at growing plants at some point then your likely to need to upgrade the lighting, so have a look in the hood and see if it would be possible to... if in doubt post in the hardware or planted forum with the specific model and ask if anyone has experience in upgrading them.

so when you take filtration and lighting out of the equation..... basically it's just down to how the tank looks and your preference and budget. none of them are likely to break or fall apart or anything like that.

Another question.............

Should I look at getting a 208 litre, 289 litre or 395 litre?

There is only a $200 price difference (80 Pound) difference....
As far as maintenance is concerned, which is the easier one and best for the fish.........keeping in mind that we go on holidays every 2nd year and dont have anyone to look after the tank for periods od a week, a fortnight and once every 4 years away for a period of around 5 weeks.........

I will buy an auto feeder however.......

cheers

Get the biggest one you can afford and fit in your house. If you buy a small one you'll want to upgrade it later, and bigger tanks are easier to keep stable.

Howver, I would have thought their filter would have done the job, why else sell them with it??

you'd have thought so wouldn't you?!?! but i can assure you juwerl filters really aren't much cop, ask around on the forum i'll guarantee you at least 90% of the people with juwel filters have removed them and upgraded!!

the biggest you have space for, big tanks are much more stable so while they take a little longer in weekly maintenance they're much less likely to have any problems. with those size tanks they're all relatvley similar sizes, the time to maintan them isn't going to be siginficantly different, once you get intoa routine it doesn't take that long for water changes.

no one to look after the tank for a week or fortnight is fine, easy peasy! 5 weeks is quite a while, i'd start investigating now if anyone can pop in, it'd only need to be a couple of times a week, if you try dog walking companies and things like that i bet you could find someone to do it for you. but as i said before the bigger body of water is much more stable, so would cope better with being left for long periods. however if you do go away reguilarly i'd advise you to keep it slightly understocked to help avoid disasters while your away :good:

The biggest problem with the juwel filters is the amount of space they take up inside the tank. It's not unheard of for fish to be trapped in / around the filter housing also. Many people do replace them with external filters so that is a consideration. I'm not familiar with the Jebo brand tanks so can't say much about them.

*edit: I seem to have a mental block over spelling Juwel...

mmmmm more things to think about...........Jebo is a Japanese brand sold here in Australia and seem to be popular along same sort of lines as AquaOne..........

Now research and then hopefully in about 2-3 month buy one...........:)

Don't get me wrong, the build on juwel tanks is very good... apart from the filters. Aqua one... I can reccomend their glass tanks :D (regency or regal series, and the new open topped ones are very nice too.)

I'd decide first what size tank you want, go cheap on the glass and buy a second hand tank (view full of water or leak test in the garden), and spend the savings on a nice big external filter, decent heater, and if necessary hood and lights. Absolutley no point in blowing $000 on new glass.

I've just brought a tank with a fluval 4+ as part of the package, would we say it is a good filter or same as juwel should be upgraded first time can?

If so what, Should be looking for external filter?

fluvals are a v popular brand, however they're really not v reliable, loads of people have had trouble with them.

what size tank is it going to be used on?

All my tanks are Juwel (rio 300, rio 240 and the Rekord 96) and I have to say I seem to be one of the few people not to have a single problem with any of them.

I will get an external filter for my rio 300 when I save up but thats just to create a bit more space, not becuase of the filter performance.

My dojo loach jumps in there pretty regularly and gives me the fright of my life when I take the sponges out to clean and he wriggles through my fingers! :hyper:

Ive had loads of bother with Fluval filters mind

Currently fishless cycling a 45 gallon tank.

I love the look and build quality of my Juwel, but the lighting lets it down. It appears to be the more advanced aquarists that are unhappy with the filter.
