FYP.

I am still very much a novice, and it shows. You picked up on something right away. Good work! :good:

Well, I wouldn't call myself an expert lol, but thanks; I'm flattered!

Thanks fluttermoth, I will definitely give it a go. If I do that will it stir up the sedimate? If so, how do I reduce this?

Oh gosh I'm a doofus! Filter media not gravel duh :p my current filter in my tank is very small (too small - upgrading on Saturday) so not sure if I can... Will have a closer look when I get a chance I maybe able to work something out. Is it possible to dangle new Filter media into the old tank & leave it for a bit? Silly question but I had to ask :/

Dangling the filter or media in won't really help, no, lol. But any piece of actual media (sponges or ceramic rings or whatever you've got in there) will do the job.

If you're getting a new filter, then take the old, smaller one apart and split the media between the two tanks; some to seed the old tank's new filter and some for the new tank, and then split the fish accordingly.

So if half the media stays in the old tank (in the new filter) and half goes into the filter in the new tank, then you should put half the fish into the new tank and leave half of them in the old tank.

Or if you put just 1/3 of the old media into the new tank, then move a 1/3 of the fish too.

Hope that makes sense!

Yes that does I will address it all this weekend...it has been a hectic week for me :/ I will also find myself a ammonia/nitrate testing kit this weekend.

Bad news, had no choice but to put rosy barbs in new tank...came home to an angel fish with a chewed & spilt tail. Barbs will be taken to lfs on Saturday...not impressed.
