I am currently fishless cycling my new QT. It has an air driven filter in it which will be more than fine for that tank.
BUT, i am thinking about MAYBE using this as a discus breeding tank (what it was used for before i got it). If i use it for that, i will need my small QT to Q my ill fish....so i'll need a second filter!
Currently, to save running two tanks, i have two sponge air driven filters in my QT/breeding tank. If i add discus to it, i'll remove my 2nd filter and start running my small QT with it.
But my thinking is, if 2 filters are working on the ammonia (lets assume they are equal in size), if i remove one, that means i only have half the bacteria required to cope with a fully stocked tank?!
SO, is it possible to double dose with ammonia.... i/e if i need to add 3ml of ammonia to get to 5ppm, i can add 6ml so i can feed both filters 3ppm? Or does it not work like that?!
Thanks
