ive had my tank,300liters, up and running with a sponge filter for nearly 2 weeks, i havn't really started the cycle properly yet as im waiting for my external filter to come, but i have 5 bunches of amazon sword 2 bunches of vallis some moss balls and a few other plants in it, but ive just found out that plants will stop my cycle? does that mean that i have to take all the plants out for my cycle?
and can snails live in a cycling tank? i want to get some snails but dont know when to buy them? like maybe some apple snails or other rarer kinds?
thanks

plants will eat away you ammonia =]

get a few more plants and some hardy fish and do a planted cycle.

just as safe. Since most of the poisons are absorbed by the plants, and you just need to keep on top of the water changes =]

i dont quite understand,
so i should be doing a fish in cycle? with 50% water changes once a week? and i shouldnt be dosing with ammonia..?

Up to you.

you either:-

Do a fish-less cycle no plants (safe for fish and wait months to put them in)
Fish in cycle plenty of water changes (not so safe but instant fish.. and possibly death)
Planted cycle with fish in and water change less but still do them! (instant fish, easier to control but you have to look after the plants as well.)

Depends how confident you are.

ok, if i did a planted cycle with fish in, would once a week changes me fine? and how much ammonia do i add, atm im using 6 drops a night. Would 2 black neons and 3 guppies be enough for fish in 300liters or would i need more?
sorry for all the questions

Don't add ammonia.

And for a tank that size I'd get 10 black neons.

And do a water change if the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels get to high.

Everyone here will be shouting at me soon... They're pro fishless.

There's nothing wrong with doing fish in cycle, as long as the water parameters are monitored daily and water changes done accordingly. A good fish to start are the glowlight tetras. I also use Seachem Stability for the first 10 days of a fish in cycle. But the most important thing is having a reliable test kit and having the equipment and ability to do large volume water changes should you detect dangerous levels of ammonia. Most will suggest a fish-less cycle because many people doing "fish-in" tend to botch it quite badly. IMO, if you have already started with a fish-less cycle, you should just finish with it.
