Hi,

I'm a newbie at the end of the first week of a fishless cycle, and wanted to share information to see if progress is on track.
PH started at 8-8.5.
Ammonia started at 5, now it's under 5 (but only just, its nowhere near the next colour that represents 2).
I've been measuring nitrite for three days and it remains at 0.2.
Water temperature is 26C.

Should the ammonia be dropping by any more at this stage?

Thanks in advance of any assistance!

You had 2 decreases in ammonia in the first week, in a similar sized tank to me (I have only artificial plants etc).
I've had only a negligible fall in ammonia in 7-days but I find it so difficult measuring with my Nutrafin kit - colour-coded steps 4.9, 2.4, 1.2, 0.6, and for someone with partial colour-blindness, the wife is having to give a second opinion every time!!
I'll persevere as others have suggested the first major fall could come later than a week....

Welcome Krisb60. You cannot expect much to happen during the first week. It can easily take a full 2 weeks before you get that first significant drop.
