Hi, I know that adding pure ammonia and using a liquid test kit is best, but I came across this info the day after I bought $20 dollars worth of test strips. I have now started cycling my 34 gallon tank with leftover goldfish food. I seeded with the aquarium with a dirty filter cartridge and a couple handfuls of gravel from my sister's 5 gallon tank. I'm wondering how long I keep this seeding material in. I put the dirty filter cartridge in my power filter, in front of the cartridge it came with. i'm wondering how long I keep this filter in. 1-2 weeks? Until the tank is cycled? Help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm going to have more questions during this cycling process so if you could check back on this topic occasionally, your input would be great! Thanks in advance

Hello! I'd suggest keeping the seed material in until the cycle is finished. Does your sister need it back? If not, just leave it in. Good luck!

Test strips are not accurate enough for our testing. Get yourself a liquid based test kit, far more accurate with the added bonus it makes you feel like a scientist when using one.
