I have added filter media to my tank, I got the heater turned up a little to speed things up and I dosed the tank up to 5ppm. I tested the water earlier and I'm already showing nitrites and nitrates and the ammoina is already dropping does this sound right. Any help for a newbie is appreciated.

I little more information is need here.

Size of tank?

Planted or not?

How long ago did you start your cycle?

What exactly are your readings?

Here is the most important question. What are your tapwater readings?

Added filter media a couple of days ago added food until I got ammonia yesterday. The tank is http://www.petsathome.com/shop/fish-box-40cm-tank-by-interpet-(available-in-store-only)-36859 it's not planted. The tap water is ammonia 0, nitrite 0 and nitrates 0. The tanks is ammonia 1.0-3.0 nitrites 1.0-5.0 nitrate 50.

Well done for going down the fishless cycle route. It seems a little early for your cycle to be kicking.

For us to be any help we need day by day readings so as to judge the changes that are going on in your filter.

It would help us loads if you could start a thread called Steves Fishless Cycle or somthing.

Then post Day by day readings, with time of dose, amount of dose & time of readings.
