Hello all that frequent this forum.

Im new to fishkeeping and have been reading a bit into what i should be doing etc etc. i have a 125 litre tank now filled with water, decorations and plants.
I have found it hard locating ammonia but have now found some. I purchased an API testing kit today too and thought i would test my water before working out how much ammonia i shoud be putting in to start the fishless cycle.
The reason for me joining the forum is to ask for help and then hopefully share my progress.
I need help this early on because these are the readings i got from testing my water before putting any ammonia in.

Is this normal?
Any thoughts and pointers would be much appreciated thank you

It would be a really good idea for you to test your tap water, so you have something to compare it to.

The ammonia could have come from your plants. Many aquatic plants are grown with just their roots underwater and when you put them totally underwater they die back a bit before settling in. The nitrite reading might mean that you already have a few of the ammonia converting bacteria, so that should be a good sign :)

I tested my tap water as suggested results here

So would you/anyone suggest i start adding ammonia as if i was starting a fishless cycle and just keeping an eye on how fast the tank deals with it?

Also please let me apologise for my awful spelling and misstyping in the OP and any future posts i make  .

lol, not all of us can be good spellers :) Sentence and paragraph breaks are the most important things for readable posts; everything else can be forgiven ;)

It's really good that you have some nitrite and nitrate being produced; that looks as if your cycle is well on it's way already. You're fine to add the ammonia and continue the fishless cycle; with those results yours may be one of the ones that goes quickly :)

Am I getting this right?

You have nitrite and high nitrate reading (before) you add any ammonia?

You mentioned that you have plants. Is there any dying plants? Rotting plants can give off ammonia.

If that is not the case, then your tap water might have ammonia (ammonium to be exactly), or nitrate, or both.

How long have you been running this tank?
If your tap water really have high ammonium, it can be a problem.

If you have been adding ammonia, then the reading would indicate your fishless cycling is doing just fine.

Please confirm whether or not you have been adding ammonia.

The first reading was indeed done before I had added any ammonia at all. The second image I linked to was a test of my tap water.

Something I did forget to mention tho was that a day before the first reading was taken I crumbled a very small amount of flake food into the tank. I was getting frustrated in not being able to find any ammonia.

I have now added some ammonia to the tank this morning and have done a reading tonight again. I will ad that image to the same album as above shortly.

Sorry i didnt answer the other question.

I have no rotting plants in the tank at worst i have a leaf on my sword plant which is showing signs of turning yellow and i will remove that when it does.
