Fish

Welcome to the forum, I suppose?

Free equipment will be hard to come by, but maybe someone might have bristlenose or guppy fry they'd be willing to give away. Better to look on Craigslist and eBay though.

Good luck to you on the search, but saving up like everyone else does might pay off better than scavenging for equipment. Second-hand heaters and filters can break depending on how long the previous owners used them, which can be bad news for you and the fish.

I honestly think that in the long run, it is more cost, time, and energy efficient to save up some money, do your research, read reviews, and buy quality equipment (filters, heaters, light) new. I would recommend looking for a used tank and stand on craigslist though, may find a decent tank for a good price! With heaters and filters and lights, you risk them dying or failing on you, them being damaged, or just the fact that they are used can mean they won't last as long. It is definitely risky. Buying them new means you can make sure you are getting exactly what you want
