Just been told that i better post here I was not sure it was so much an emergency but I suppose its better to be safe.

The topic started here

I have noticed over the past week my guppys and swordtails waste has been white and looks kinda crystal or sand like when it breaks up its not stringy like you would see with a possible bacteria infection.

Could this be to do with there diet?

They are fed every day the usual amount of flake, cucumber once a week also Bloodworm and Daphnie occassionally.

All stats are fine water change 25-30% every 14 days.

Anybody else noticed this ?

Help appreciated.

was told it could be the food.

I changed the flake food from King British to another kind off ebay which was sold in re-sealable bags. I have used this for over two months.

All the other species seem okay and the guppys and swordtails in my other tanks seem okay.

I have just noticed my female swordtails darting around the tank really fast and then they hide away in the plants.

Could this be a sign that they are about to produce offspring.

I have seen them act like this sometime before but can't remember if they produced young after it

Has anybody else experienced this?

Then this started

I have not fed them flake for two days but as in my last post they are still producing white crumbly waste which I think is very odd but have still no Idea why.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Does the poo look like mucas.
Also does it look like a beaded necklace.
Signs of internal parasites are.
Being thin or bloated.
Sometimes bent spine,
Enlarged anus to red and inflamed anus.
Worms prutruding from the anus.

Hello,

The tank is 55g UK
23 neon tetras , x sailfin plec, 1 Red tail Black, 5 rummy nose tetras, 6 corys, guppies young and old.

Amm - 0
Nit - 0
Nitrate 60ppm
Ph - 7

no mucas just breaks up like sand it looks normal shape apart from being grainy white.

No signs of infection on fish.

They now look really scared when i approach the tank they then hide in the plants which is very unusal for swordtail.

Okay, IMO it is the diet. Switch to a food that has a predominant colour to it like bloodworm or single colour flakes. If fish eat red food for example then their waste will be that colour. Sometimes switching brands is not a good idea. Feed a reputable brand of fish food. My sister bought some fish pellets from a shop called WHAT!, and the stuff that was in it, well I was cringing.

Emma :good:

sounds like cucumbery poo, my plecs have pale poo when they have been eating courgette flesh, and sometimes bright green from the skin

Both my Polypterus have white poop nearly all the time, its mainly because they eat fish, eels, prawns etc...

If i feed them predator pellets its goes red...dont worry about it too much
