Hi im wanting to get a betta, i have a mature 64L tank and have 4 ottos (getting some more soon) and guppy fry (soon to go into dads tank just letting them grow so they dont get eaten).

What other fish can go with bettas?

I'm thinking about:
green neon tetra
lamp eye
golden white cloud mountain minnow (lfs has normal ones in with betta and they all ok)
rummy nose tetra

These ok?
Any other fish? not too big or difficult to keep.

I think that most of those fish are fin nippy. I read where tetras were, not sure about the minnows. I would try a school of pygmy corries, if space permits. :good:

How about harlequin, galaxy, emerald dwarf or copper rasbora....In my experience they tend to be less nippy than some tetra species.

IME Minnows go great with Bettas

I run neon tetra with betta and they're fine. However, they can be very nippy so it's a risk you'd have to take if you wanted to try it. I've also got shrimp and corys in with my betta. Great tank set up and everyone is very happy.

Its a 64 Litre tank so quite large, if i add some more plants should it be ok with some tetras?

What about endlers? i have a small gap at the back of the hood/lid, it is partially covered just above the water will it be a problem cos i heard that they are jumpers.

endlers are generally a better choice than tetras...and mountain minnows are a coldwater fish. cories are a great choice...as are snails and shrimp.

I actually posted a topic like this during the week.
I got more or less the same advice, I've only a 5 gallon though, so I was advised to get pygmy cories, shrimp or snails.
I took a young peppered cory from my community tank and added him to the betta tank to see how they got on, but yesterday I seen the betta go down to the bottom and attack the cory so had to move him back. I had also put shrimp in durin the week. and they seem to be doin fine :D

Mountain minnows are still classed as tropical fish but they can live in temps from 18 degrees to 28 degrees and i only asked cos one of the bettas ive seen is with some and i wondered if anyone keeps any with their betta?

Endlers and Lampeyes may work ( lampeye's are not tetras they are actually killifish )

Many thanx people :D i dont want to keep a betta on his own or with only sucky fish and i aint had much luck with shrimp so my dad has them :D

I keep a betta in with 20 black neons and they are great with him, also a young angel fish and surprisingly they are very good buddies! Don't think that will last forever though lol
