Hey everyone, as you've all probably heard about my FM troubles well lets just say I am resorting to moving him to a new tank ? Anyways has anyone got any cool ideas of what could go in with him, his partner and black widow tetras? (planning on having round 8-10 tetras). Tank size is 65 gallons 100cmx50cmx50cm, was looking at gold saum's in all honesty but I dont want to risk it as I'd end up with a 50/50 chance of having no tetras and a war between the firemouths and the gold saum GT, I was also looking at some CA cichlids too but I'd need some help with stocking choices and with scaping as I want to create the most sight blocks as possible due to the aggression levels I can see being shown in my 75 by the firemouths. I cant wait to hear everyones thoughts :)

If the FM really is a bully, what about a convict? Just a single, not a pair (a pair would outfight the FMs). I plan on getting a pink convict to go with my Acara and FMs. I am getting some green tiger barbs (maybe?) as well.

Hmm I really like that idea to be honest, I've never owned convict's would a single male be alright with black widow tetras?

As far as I know. I don't actually have one yet, but from what I have looked into, they would probably be just as fine with the widows as with barbs.

It honestly comes down to the particular fish. You occasionally might come across one that is psychotic, or it might be laid back.

I might try it! I do love the look of convicts but I constantly hear horror stories associating them ahhh haha

Me too, but from what I can tell it is mostly pairs that, ya know, kill everyone in sight. When I go in, I will be looking for a less dominant fish (being chased rather than chasing).

Yeah that's very true! I might try it in all honesty as at the end of the day its all trial and error haha, I might even go for a Cichlasoma if I can get the circumstances right lol. I dont blame you I will be doing the same haha!

Tough one with a pair, do you have the skirt tetras yet? You might be better off looking at some live bearers like Swordtails or Goodieds. Blind Cave Tetras could be cool too. If you can find them biotope tetras would be Astynax or Roiboides but they never turn up in shops.

I'm not too sure how other cichlids would fare with a pair but I'd be looking at things like Salvini, JDs, Sajica, maybe Nics, Oscura? Since you are setting up multiple tanks I think it could be worth a try as you can pull them out if you need to.

Have you ever seen a guy on youtube called Lee Nutall? He isnt active anymore but his tanks are amazing!

Hiya Wills, How's you're fish doing? :)
Anyways it really is especially as these fish typically pair for life so when the female starts following the males footprints I am in for lots of fun :( I do already have the skirts (3 at the moment as I lost a couple to ulcers, I wanted to give them a school and a bigger tank aswell) To be honest I might try a juvinile Dempsey and call the tank finished with the three species as this time I'm going to fill it with sight blockers to try and kill all agression. Obviously my only issue is the skirts being from a completely different biotope but I'll just have to trial and error this tank. Thank you for you're advice!
