anyone know of frshwater fish for a 29 gal tank that are hard to stress out, or any fish that people have placed in tanks where there can be loud music a few times a week?

I really don't have any idea about the loud noise issue, but I do know that my Rosy barbs have NEVER appeared stressed. I got them in the beginning, when I knew nothing, and I had them in a WAY overstocked tank with Tiger barbs. ALL of the tiger barbs were stressed and caught ick, and one of them even developed a bad fungus. They were all removed and placed in the hospital tank for treatment, and the Rosy's were moved into a bigger tank. Those poor Rosy's have been through a LOT of stress-inducing situations, and have NEVER appeared bothered by it, always swimming happily.

 I have a huge subwoofer under my desk, and one tank is on that desk, and the other is on a stand right next to it. Never noticed any change in behaviour of my two bettas and 8 kuhli loaches. The shrimp will jump when there's vibration, but the fish don't even seem to notice it. I only crank the volume once or twice a week. Gunshots through a good system will make shrimp jump out of water, though. Not that I was trying that on purpose or anything.

As for hardy fish, why are you asking? All fish need the same level of care - none can just be forgotten about for a week. True, some are very hard to keep even for those who are experianced, but those are usually priced and labeled as such.

i was figuring that if certain fish are known to be more hardy than others, then they would be less affected by the occasional loud noise, hence why i'm asking before i buy the fish. if there were certain fish that were known to stress out in a high traffic area with occasional loud noise, then i'd avoid those fish. it goes without saying that proper care will be provided.

That was a red flag question, sorry!

Bettas do well in high traffic areas because they aren't afraid of anything. In a tank that size you could do a nice sized sorority of betta gals, if the tank was heavily planted (fake or real.) I also love my black kuhli loaches. Some people say they never come out of hiding - mine certainly don't know about that rule! I've got 8, and they're moving around all day, oblivious to me, my friends, my cats, and just about everything in the tank. Of course, I am very biased towards bettas and loaches, so please keep that in mind. :good: Snails usually could care less about what's going on outside as well, but tankmates need to be considered because they do get beat up on pretty easily. (And they come in awesome colors to make your friends jealous.)

Shrimp and frogs are a no-no. Anything that is a prey species doesn't do well in high traffic areas, because they're already naturally high-strung.

The false flying fox. you need to keep it single or at 8+ groups.
But they're amazing, don't bother any fish unless it's like, a RTBS or something of similar shape or certain algea eaters. (plecos not bothered.)

You can aslo try some smaller species of cichlids. Most are pretty hardy and my kids noise doesn't seem to bother them.
