I've had this flame tetra for about 4 months now. When I got him, he had a bent spine near his tail. He has trouble swimming straight and is constantly tipping down. He eats fine and is totally healthy otherwise. I got him from Petsmart, who probably has crappily-bred fish to begin with. Is it a deformity or could it be TB? It hasn't gotten worse or anything.

Thank you!

first off petsmart's fish batch is fine (we get from a breeder and none of ours are bad...), we get the oasional one in that's messed up... it's your fault for buying a deformed one so don't blame petsmart...

IMO, it's just deformed, I've had loads of deformed fish in my tank, only got 1 from petsmart..., should be fine... may shorten it's life span...

i don't think that's exactly fair to say, did she get it from the same petsmart your on about? have you visited it and seen that particular batch of fish to check the health of them?

even the best stores can sometimes get a dodgy batch so lets not turn this into petsmart wars and just focus on the issue in hand.

it could be TB, I'm not 100%, I've known fish be born with swimbladder and carry on for years, they may not live as long as other fish but as the owner it's then down to you to assess the life of the fish and see if you think it's happy or not and if nescessary you may one day need to take the descision to euthanaise it.

I also had a fish who was used to cycle my first tank (many years ago before fishless cycling was common practice, I'd certainly never heard of it) and in later life developed a humped spine much like that, I always suspected it was TB, she lived quite contentedly like that for at least a year before she passed on.

As theres been no other symptoms for 4 months then i would say as well its been born like that.
