i'm thinking about getting myself a little (i say little, it won't be little, i like big) fish-related tattoo, to honor my obsession. who else has been inked in a fishy style?! show us your tatts!

Don't have one myself, but i did consider it for a little while!

It certainly would be interesting to see if anyone has 1.

fella ive seen that one before. i love it. i was thinking about a little japanese koi mid back. bit different from the usual dragon/chinese symbol/tribal effort isnt it?

A carp jumping over the dragons gate= success in exams and carear in china.
Goldfish are associated with gold, prosperity and summer time.
Sometimes in chinese and japanese art you will see someone riding a carp- the reference is to a Chinese legend of a sennin (Taoist immortal) whose Japanese name is Kinko. He was usually depicted riding a giant carp. The legend is that he went undersea and learned esoteric secrets and then emerged from the ocean riding on the back of a giant carp. The carp symbolises strength, fortitude and good fortune.

Or you could just avoid the traditional carp and goldfish tattoo's altogether and go for a fish more unique or special to you :good: .

This one is mine. :) I got it the beginning of July 2006.

Been wanting a second tattoo for ages now, but couldn't think of anything appropriate that I liked that much - duh

see as much as i like the koi tattoos, i've got a lot of friends already with them, i don't and never have kept koi, i live in a second floor flat for a start haha. a koi wouldn't make sense for me. i like the traditional koi style though...

Why don't you go for a betta, endler or oto tattoo then :) ?

With all do respect, why would you WANT to get the same tattoo another person has? I am not a big fan of tattoos, but I always thought the big thing with tattoos was that it was a way of expressing yourself as an individual. Also, if something was symbolic to an Asian hundreds of years ago doesn't mean it HAS to be symbolic to you.

It's art, be original.

Gotta agree with that and i have a LOT of tattoos.

Stuff whats symbolic for other people, get whats symbolic to YOU - i laugh inside when people get stuff in chinese or any language that is nto their own, or tribal symbolic imagery from tribes that are not their own.... (and yeah i have tribal style tattoos myself before anyone beats me over the head....).... you gonna look a bit dumb when your grandkid asks why you have a chinese tattoo yet are not chinese and cannot speakchinese and know buggrall about china..... ditto the tribal stuff, esp. maori....

And echo the stuff about other peoples work. Flash images you find on tattoo sites thats fine although deeply unoriginal (yes flash fans i have flash work of my own too, again no head beating please).....

However personally i deem it the HEIGHT of bad manners to copy a tattoo youve seen frmo an actual photo of somoenes work if that work was original.
If its a copy of one of MY original works, well thats copyright theft for a start! DOnt do it, be inspired BY it, but dont steal other peoples tattoos!

(Id love to find out what would ACTUALLY happen to someone wearing an image that belonged to someone else who hadnt given permission..... just HOW would you claim that image back..... hmmm ouch! rofl!)
