hi,

is it realistic to have a fish tank with fish tank underneath instead of sump ???

maybe a 5 foot main tank and a 2 1/2 - 3ft tank underneath.  (maybe a quaritine or breeding tank)

has anyone done this and what are the reasons for or against this ?

I don't see why not.... Tons of people do this? :S

The only tow conlsiderations are having enough space above the under tank to be able to work in it and then to have it raised enough above the floor to be able to get a siphon/vacuum to work.

Indeed, just think of the LFS, they generally have racks several high. I remember when it was difficult to get a stand that didn't have room for another tank at the bottom.

want a big top tank and smaller tank underneath with room for external
