Fish Tank Vacums

When I had gravel I cleaned it with somthing like this however since I upgraded to sand I find it's very poor. Not only does it suck up more sand than waste but half the time it fails to pick ANY waste up

I was looking at some equipment in my LFS and saw this product. Is this a good product? I was wondering what people use to clean waste off sand as at the moment I'm using some 12mm eheim tubing and having to wave over the sand to collect the dirt (problem with this is the bucket is normally full before I've finished the water change

i have the same problem as you, the only way i found of cleaning it is using the first product you showed, but a much smaller thinner one, i also use 2 types of tubing, a thick one which then connects to the thiner one (tube) this way it doesnt suck up as much water as quick. it sort of works i guess, i havent found any other better way but then ive only owned fish for just over a month now

Put your thumb over the outlet to regulate flow and wave in a spiral motion above the deitrus. The deitrus wil lift in this flow and be sucked in and your restriction on the flow allows you to control water input.

you will struggle with the first one as its for gravel.

the second item i have something very similar which is so easy to use, minimal sand it sucked up, and you just waft it over the surface, and when you see the bits lift off you just suck them up with this.... obvioulsy it wont empty half yopur tank at the same time though
