My 2 boys were playing on sofa, i have my hex tank at side of sofa on a stand, i was in the kitchen, when my little boy came running in saying he was sorry, i heard water pouring out, i couldnt believe it, one of the panes of glass was smashed and cracked, and water gushing out everywhere, i put all the fish into a bucket after catching them all, water still gushing all over my floor at this point, then i took the tank outside, put the fish in my other tank, along with another filter.... and mopped up !!

I cant believe this has happend

I even have 2 guppy fry that i saved, they are in a net in my big tank, along with all of the fish from my 90 litre, plus the fish that are already in my 180litre

I have 2 filters running in there now, the standard juwel filter, plus a Fluval2+.....

All the fish look ok at the moment, do you think they will be ok??

I would think they'd be ok just add some stress coat to the tank with the fish from your other tank and they should be fine. How did your boys break the tank in the first place?

They were play fighting on the sofa, and my 5 year old, fell back, and smashed his head on the tank, smashing the glass, his head is fine, no marks there, but omg the water...... I have a wooden floor, so im hoping it wont start swelling up, i mopped it all up as quick as i could. but my first thought were for my little boys head and saving the fish !!

Well at least everyone is ok. I am sorry to say most likly the floor will start swelling but that all depends on how fast you mopped it up. Because my mom said that it all depends on how fast you got it mopped up because if it sat there for to long then most likly it will start to swell.

Well i did mop up last, i made sure my little boy was ok, then i got to saving the fish, whilst the water was still pouring everywhere.... Im sure the floor may start swelling , if so i will sort it out.... not to worry.....

Thanx C x :*

god i would be so freaked out if that happened, glad your kids and your fish are all ok. Is it laminate you have on the floor as it's really bad for swelling.

Look on the bright side you can always replace it with a new bigger tank and get more fishies. Go for a matching juwel tank if it's in the same room as your other tank.

Im a little bit worried :/ My Juwel Vision 180 that now houses ALL my fish, is becoming slightly cloudy!! Is this normal?? I have 2 filters running in there now, a juwel, and a fluval2+, should i do anything?? Ive just tested the water and stats are..

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
Ph 7.5

Im not sure what to do with the smashed tank, it is only 1 pane of glass on the hexagon tank that is damaged, can i get this repaired?? I have rang my lfs, and they dont repair them :(

Any advise would be welcome

C x :*

I would thin k it is normal due to the addition of the new housemates. I would probably watch it for a few days then maybe change a little water. porbably a shock to the remaining tank for a little while.

You could ring a glass cutter from the yellow pages and get a piece cut for you then attach it with aquarium silicone maybe!

Yeah, that would work, otherwise you might have to replace the whole thing. the labour costs involved in someone else fixing it probably wouldnt be worth it with a smaller hex tank like that... it might end up being cheaper to get a new tank

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad ur boy is ok!

I'd ring a glass cutter and get a pane of glass cut to size and do a DIY job on repairing it urself. If that fails there's always house insurance! :D

Glad your boy is ok, what a nightmare, your lfs will probably repair it, just keep an eye on water stats, hope the fish are ok, good luck, are all fish accounted for.

I cant believe your son is ok after smashing in your tank. The glass is thick on my tanks I am glad your son is ok. How are you going to fix your fish now that thier tank is destroyed????
