Hi, one of my mates has a bought a tank with out a hood and just wondering if theres some sort of light fixture that can stick on the side of the tank to illuminate it?

Cheers!

does the tank have any sort of cover?

if you build this diy cover you can just buy a light (like the ones commonly sold with hoods) and set it on top of the acryilic cover.

For a long-term solution, lighting a tank from the side would be pretty unnatural for the fish. I mean, in nature light does not enter from the side, it is from the top down, and the fish may act rather unusually, that is stressed, if they are lighted from the side for a long time.

Then again, maybe I'm wrong, anyone out there ever light long-term from a side?

A couple of friends have tried lighting their tanks from the side. Both times, it was nothing but heaven... for algae. I guess you can try, but be prepared to clean up lots of algae if things go wrong.
