Fish Tank Heater

hi guys can anyone throw some light on this i put a heater in my tank set it at 78% but on the thermometer it shows 82 so turned the heater switch down to 65 but the therm says 80 is this because the room my tank is in may be warmer than down stairs many thanks jmogs

hey...is your thermometer emeresed in your tank or is it those stick on ones on the outside...If its those outside ones, maybe the room temperature would be a slight factor imo...
