hi i was wondering if anyone can offer any advice please i have a tank with mollys guppies corey and plec in it stupidly i bought a couple of fish from pets at home put them in the tank that was a week ago and an now loosing on average 2 fish a day ive tested the water everything seems fine the shop has tested it and said the same i have used a general disease treatment but nothing is working as we speak i have yet another fish dying - they all seem to lack the bright colours - they all look dull and as they are dying they just lie at the bottom of the tank or up at the filter till they pass :( they really dont look healthy i have noticed also one fish has a red ring on its head that looks as if it shouldnt be there but seems to be healthy - for the minute as i say everything was fine till i introduced new fish but now it seems like im loosing my whole tank :( sorry for all the questions any advice would be appreciated thanks

The first thing you should be doing is some large water changes; leave just enough water for the fish to swim upright (don't forget to switch your heater and filter off when doing large-scale changes)

Can we have a bit more info to help you please? How big is the tank, how long has it been set up, what's your maintenance regime (water changes, filter cleaning) and what exactly are the fish in residence right now?

All those things will help us help you and your fish, but a water change should be the very first thing you do if you have sick or dying fish. Warm, dechlorinated water, of course!

hi sorry just done over a 50 percent chance today but no joy still loosing fish the tank is 4 foot it has been set up for months the water is done on a week basis with just under 1/3 being changed the filter is an internal one with different pads changed at different times - it is the juwel internal filter it is all changed at the correct times the whole tank seemed to be happy and healthy until the new fish were introduced id had no deaths at all till then now everything seems to be dying given disease treatment but it doesnt seem to have done anything

meant to add fish seem to have long stringy white poo as well i dont kow if this is anything ?

Ok; I needed to know that this wasn't a new tank and that it was cycled, which yours should be, although there's absolutely no need to ever change filter pads (unless they're carbon); that's just a ruse by the manufacturer to get more money from you!

The stringy white poo sounds like an internal bacterial infection, I always use myxazin for that kind of thing, so you could give that a try; best of luck and I'm sorry for your losses :-(

thank you is this likely to have been caused by the new additions? is there anything i can do to prevent this in future ? the dying fish seem really listless at first and then just kind of lie against the filter on on the tank floor and die a lot of the fish are pooing white are these all likely to die too ? sorry about all the questions

Sadly, this is why you should always quarantine any new fish you bring in. The problem is almost certainly caused by the new fish, but you have no way to really document this to P@H, who, from the posts I've read about them, probably wouldn't do anything anyway. And by the way, what kind of fish did you get?

2 male guppies 6 neon tetras and 3 orange platys of which i have 1 neon 2 platys left :( i really hate buying from there and never will again since reading up a lot of people seem to have had problems with the fish that come from there :(

Any time I've bought from a pet store the fish have died a short time later. Whether it be from disease or just mistreatment in the pet store. LFS has been great, well worth the extra money IMO.

hi i dont know if this has any relevance ive just sat and thought and realised my fish are dying off after they are fed blood worm ? as the fish - what was left of them seemed happy and active today until my hubby fed them blood worm now there is another 4 dead and 2 struggling this seems to have happened everytime could this just be a coincidence or the cause of my dying fish thats 15 fish now :( thanks

what is lfs, i thought i stood for local fish stockist (for me that would be pets at home). the one fish i did get from there was so weak when i first got him that i had to quite literally hand feed him. Thanks to all my effort he is bigt and fat now but i will never get anything from there again though.

i would definitely stop feeding them blood worm, see if they get better and if they do then you may be able to sue the company and get money back for some new fish. Definitely stop feeding them it if you think it is what has been making them ill. Have you ever left the packet open for a long period of time as this i think can let bacteria into the food which could cause the fish an infection.

hi its a brand new packet of frozen bloodworm - it has never happened before so was just wondering wether this could be a bad batch of worms
