Fish Tank Coffee Table!

I see nothing wrong with that tank whatsoever. It's a good size, wider and longer than it is tall so the fish have plenty of swimming space, and basically no different than my 20 gallon long that sits on the floor of my closet. The fish do not notice when you vaccuum around them... in fact, my betta juvies bunch to the front because I'm the food lady, vaccuum or not :p. I also sit stuff (soda cans etc) on top of my 80 gallon all the time and my oscar doesn't sense it. Heck, I'm lucky if he looks up and notices at all. The fact is, sounds and vibrations outside the tank have to pass through the air, then the glass, then the water to reach the fish, and every time they pass through a different medium they disperse, so by the time they actually reach the fish the disturbance is generally going to be so minor that it is unnoticeable. Fish are not going to freak out if you set a soda can or magazine on top of their tank. It's not going to feel like an earthquake. Now if you have surround sound and like to turn up the bass for a nice thump, then maybe....
As for spilling coffee or soda on that tank, the lid overhangs at the edges to prevent anything from getting into the tank itself.

as a fish tank, these tanks are not bad (there are a lot worse out there)
as a coffee table it is impractable (you can't move it when you have guests)
as a fish tank/coffee table it is cruel IMHO

I see no problem with them. They are a good size, and make a good conversational piece. My only complaint would be that hiding the wires could be hard. If they are only around 6" tall, I make them over 20 Imperial gallons.

Also I think some people are a bit too tetchy about stressing out fish. Scientists managed to get a male betta to live for around 7 years (IIRC) by feeding well, water changes and chasing it around the tank once or twice a day with a net to exercise it.

If you said you chased your fish around with a net on here you would be flamed to hell, yet it didn't seem to hurt the fish that lived longer than most.

As for the vibrations of a hoover...

I also think that toilet tank is sexist. What, only men get to see the tank? Somehow, I think we've discussed this before. But it is always good to remember the laughs we've had at the expense of toilet tank.

We could always put the tank of the toilet in front if that's what you want  lol

I would have one and have tropicals in it. Ive seen far worse *proper aquariums* stuffed with fish.

I think that the main problem would be it getting knocked. People are always bumping coffee tables when they move past them. Especially after a few beers!! :S
