Last night my gourami was fine, swimming around the tank like normal. Then this morning I woke up to him just floating at the bottom (still alive and breathing) but he finally started swimming around but he will start normal and then he will end up on his side and swim that way. What is wrong with him?

Does he look fat or bloated, if so then his stomach is pressing against his swim bladder which will make him swim like that. Or something could be wrong with his swim bladder.

Is he tipping upside down, what does it look like when the goes to the toilet, any flicking and rubbing on objects as laying to one side also can mean parasites, try some shelled peas and daphnia to flush him through.

Well He is laying off to one side but there is no flicking or rubbing. I will have to get back to you about the feces part (of course I cant get him to eat anyway). He does have fin rot, could that have anything to do with it?

When you say shelled peas you mean peas in a can.. or is this a fish term I have never heard (which wouldnt surprise me)

Also where would I get daphnia??

Finrot sound like a second bacteria infection, i would use an anti internal bacteria med, can you issolate the fish for treatment, shelled peas frozen or canned, if frozen boil for a few minutes, let cool down, the pop out of shell, mush between fingers, then give to the fish, daphnia is a water flea and is very good for the fish as it helps digest there food.

I heard that can peas aren't good for fish because it has to much sodium (salt) in it and that fresh or frozen is better.

That can mean a number of things but i would go with a bacteria infection for now, with swimming sideways and finrot, good luck, you will need a bacteria med, like maracyn two.

he was doing better this afternoon, but now he has gotten worse. He is just laying at the bottom of the tank breathing fast and every once in a while he seems to spasm, like he is trying ot swim but cant and then just ends up back at the bottom of the tank. I feel so bad for him... any other suggestions on what I should do for him... he wont eat anything and I cant get anywhere to get meds right now. Any help please?!

My Blue gourami had ick and died.
he spent the last few days sobbering around the little 5G hospital tank, usually either laying on the bottom, or sucked on the filter. I medicated him, but I was too late :'(

Sorry R.I.P.
