I've had this tank set up for over 3 weeks now, but I've not had time to buy any fish. Im just after suggestions for fish that would suit a tank of this size. I've had experience keeping fish as I used to have a nice 300l community tank years ago. But I've never had a tank this small so dont want to go for some of my old favorites which would eventually grow way to big.

Im thinking of maybe going for 1 or 2 larger specimens rather than lots of little fish like tetras etc.

Suggestions?

Are you planning to fishless cycle your tank? If so you've got plenty of time to be thinking about fish choices

For larger fish, probably the biggest would be something like dwarf gourami (top dwelling) or some dwarf cichlids (mid to bottom dwelling). Or maybe a school of just one type of fish? Something like 12 cardinal tetras or harlequin rasboras?

I have 2 of my girlfriends gold fish in there at the moment doing the job for me. They have been in there for about a week now but I wont be able to buy any fish until the end of the month anyway so I still have some time to plan. I like cichlids, but i've kept them before. Are there any odd balls that would be suited to this size tank?

Hi
why dont you keep larger specimens of smaller fish
for example in my LFS they had tiger barbs that were like 7cm in size, they with a few  other large fish would look awesome whizzing around a 90l tank

now to make you sad, larger specimens are hard to find, they tend to be found in people tanks not pet stores, it just an idea

I've been thinking about what fish to get, and was wondering, is it illegal to take young fish and plants from the local river ( i live in England) ? I think it would be quite interesting to replicate a slice of English river in a tank.

Even it is legal, are there any other factors I would need to think about for keeping wild caught local fish in a tank?
