Hi,

I am new to keeping fish (I have had my tank for nearly two months)

I have 6 danios ...started with 8 - two died today :(
I also have 5 platies - 2 male and 3 female.

I am doing regular water changes and testing the water - after cycling the tank, the water is now stable and passes all the tests.

My problem is with my filter. Two weeks ago, after doing a weekly water change, I counted the fish and found one Danio to be missing. I adventually found it stuck between the filter and the tank. The filter has a small (Danio sized) indent in the back. I released it, and the next day, it's tail fell off. I have been giving it some general bacterial treatment, and it now seems to have recovered from it's ordeal with the tail growing back nicely.

Today however, during another water change, I found TWO Danios stuck in the same spot!!!! ...and unfortunately they were already DEAD by the time I realised :(

I have now put some padding in the hole at the back of the filter - cut from an Algae Pad!! I am hoping that this will stop any other fish getting caught.

As both incidents occured whilst doing a water change, I am not wandering if I am disturbing the fish too much when doing a water change, causing them to be scared and find a hiding place?

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Is the place they are getting stuck in near a filter inlet? If not, leave the padding there and it will be fine :good: If it is, the padding may be an issue...

Can you get pics of the offending hole?

:hi: to TFF BTW :good:

Thanks for your reply. No, it's NOT near the filter inlet, so hopefully should be ok.
The filter is a Tetra Tec IN 600 BTW.

Pictures added ...one of the tank, the other of the back of the filter (hole plugged with algae pad) ...

Any chance you could get them enlarged? The pics I'm seeing doesn't have the usual double click to zoom feature, and are too small to realy get an idea of what I'm looking at.

Thanks

That foam should be no problem at all LouLou. The intake on that style filter is usually in front near the bottom so your foam is not affecting the flow.
