Hi there everyone i am new to this forum and a bit new to the hobby (6 months)just a couple of questions might be in the wrong bit if i am please accept my apologies ok here goes i have a 48 litre tank for about 6 months didn't really cycle it properly (we all make mistakes) bit new to all this but the inhabitants are doing fine now due to partial water changes and all water parameters seem to be good now .
I have purchased a 200 litre tank and want to do things properly this time so am about 6 days of cycling the water parameters have not changed at all ?? i am using filter start i have also got 4 plants in there , (and some hitchhiking snails should i get a couple of assassin snails?)
anyway the real question is i definately want some male guppys but am also thinking about discus or angelfish any suggestions for those or that size fish that will go with my guppys and will not be terrorised would be appreciated i really don't know what to go for i just like pretty fish
sorry for the long post and hi to everyone :look:

Hello and welcome!

The water paramters in the 200 litre tank are not changing because you are not really cycling. Have a read through the Beginners resource centre and especially the section "Fishless cycling". You basically have to add ammonia in order to get the bacteria colony started and that will take about six weeks.

If you decide to sell on the 48 litre tank and moving the inhabitants to the 200 litre tank another option would be you transferring the media (sponges etc) from your 48 litre tank filter to the bigger tank's filter and the fish at the same time. Are you going to keep both tanks or only upgrade?

How high is the 200 litre tank? Angels need at least 18 inches in height.

Discus need a very low ph and soft water.

Do you know what your hardness and ph are? Would help suggest some fish for your tank.

Hello thanks for replying i will read the beginners thread i will try and answer some of the questions asap i am using nutrafin cycle and have taken out all plants does nutrafin cycle have ammonia in ??
i would have replied sooner but only just found that my thread had been replied to and found where it was , am i supposed to get notifications sorry its probably something dead simple that i've missed

Yes, please read up and come back here with questions and answering the questions I asked.

Nutrafin cycle has no ammonia in it. Apparently it has live bacteria, but it's a big discussion on how it can be possible to keep bacteria alive in a bottle, so most here don't recommend those products. They just empty your pockets of hard earned cash.

Are you in the UK? Homebase sells Kleen off household ammonia for under £2, that's where you can get it from.
