Hi all,

I have a 65 ltr tank (please check my signature for current stocking). Since all the current fish are bottom dwellers, I plan to purchase 2-3 fishes for the mid-upper layers. I wanted some bigger fish so my daughter can associate with them easily. I was thinking of one pearl gourami and one blue gourami. Do you think they will be suitable for my tank? Would they harass the smaller bottom dwellers? If they are not suitable, could you please suggest some alternatives?

Thanks for all the help in advance

I don't know. you're tank seems a little crowded already. the rule of thumb is 1in of fish per gallon, and at maturity you will definitely be at or past that. make sure you look a fishes mature size when checking for tank space they will grow quickly. i would think about trading some fish or upgrading to a bigger tank. hope this helps.and most gouramis do good in trios (2 female 1 male).

Well your tank seems like it might be near its limit of stocking fishes. I've never kept amano shrimp before so I don't know how big they grow, but pearls and 3-spot gouramis (blue/gold/opaline) can grow to 4-6 inches and might make lunch out of your shrimps.

Gouramis are territorial, and mostly the males. 3-spots are more agressive than pearls and they need their own space or else they might bully or even kill your other fishes. Like charlie said, they do well in trios of their own kind.

You can also go for dwarf or honey gouramis since they are a tad bit smaller at adult and have magnificent colourations. Also very easy to keep, but beware that the dwarf gourami has a history of being prone to disease as you will see alot about this topic in the gourami section.

Hope this helps.
