HI Guys, I got my Flame Angel last week. Everything seems to be going fine till last night when I saw something wrong with his eye. I surfed the net quite abit last night & it seems he has Fish pop eye. I must have read through many website each giving an opinion on what to do. Strangely enough they started from doing nothing to 100% water changes etc etc. So can you guy recommend anything on what I should do? I will be testing my water stats today & afterwards doing my usual 20% water change.

I have been watching the tank all week & all tank mates seem to be doing well together. The main things that is mentioned. Is to make sure water quality is great, and if its on one eye don't move him but keep a close eye on him.

If you have any pointers I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Gazza.

Strangely enough, my flame angel had something similar to popeye as well. I guess it bumped into a rock or something and scratched its left eye, then it had a bacterial infection on that eye and died eventually. Popeye happens with both eyes, while a bacterial infection may happen in one, just keep that in mind. From my research, i believe you are supposed to achieve excellent water quality and not disturb the fish (if it has a bacterial infection.) Since I had coral i could not treat the main tank nor could i catch it without disturbing the reef. The most important thing is to make sure it is eating.

dont know if this answers your question, but hope it helps :good:

Popeye is often a symptom rather than a diagnosis. Like Milkton said, it often has to do with bacterial infection. The disease my baby clownfish has a couple months back resulted in popeye along with a bloated tummy and other symptoms. It ended up being an internal fungus disease. Treated with formalin for about 4 days and he got better because I caught it early. The other 2 which caught it died, unfortunately. To this day, however, one of his eyes is still a little popeyeish, popeye can often be permanent.
