Ok well its happening again, i have been doing 50% water changes every night as my amonia seems to creep up to 0.5 - 1 ppm. And towards the end of the night the fish start sitting on the bottom. They are now sitting on the bottom but i have checked the Ammonia and this time it is 0 ppm? Whats going on?

Did you check the nitrite?

Did you wait the 5 minutes?

A water change couldn't hurt anything, until someone helps to figure out the answer to this...

They seem more active now the light is on

Yes still bright blue after 5 mins

Maybe it was sleeping?

What's your tap ammonia? What dechlorinator dosage do you use for water changes? What's your normal maintenance?

how long are the lights on for out of interest, fish do get tired and sleep, like me, often :D

I try to get my lights on for 4/5 hours a day, My tap ammonia is 0, I give 1 and a half the amount it says on the bottle, I use the weekly maintenance that is recommended in the resource section of this site. I changed to sand about a week ago and thats when the problem started. They all seem fine today though.

You probably stirred up a load of crap from the gravel, when changing over to sand..

That makes sense.
