hey

i was wondering,

if you were on holiday and saw some fish you wanted, could you bring them with you on the airplane?

because one of my parents friends told me she got some guppys in South Africa and took thyem over the england on the plane and during the time the females started to give birth, lol

so anyone?

Erm, no. If customs catch you, you'll have the fish taken from you and destroyed, you'll be taken to court and probably fined. It's totally illegal to bring animals into the UK without permits. How would you even get them on the plane? Put them in your luggage in an unpressurized hold? Put them in your hand luggage and let them get x-rayed? Stupid idea, sorry.

He is right, the best way, if you want those type of fish, go through a professional international fish trader, they can get the fish imported for you, and they will be cared for in a fishes heaven on their way to you

;)

My understanding is that there no regulatory or customs problems with importing fish from one EU country to another. If importing from outside the EU I believe you have to fill in some fairly simple forms in advance.

The main problem is will the airline carry the fish? Obviously there is no general problem as fish fly all the time. It will be up to the individual airline. Basically it is not a spur of the moment type thing but will need to be planned in advance.

They dont destroy them! I saw it on 'Airline' :p (is that what its called? lol)

The guy tried to take a couple of Goldfish, complete with bowl, onto the plane in his hand luggage. They told him he couldn't take them so he flushed them down the toilet!!!! Luckily they managed to fish them out before they disappeared though!! I think one of the staff ended up taking them home... Poor fishies...

well, I guess international travel is a little complicated. But locally, I think it's easier to deal with. My sister buys fish from our capital (here in the Philippines) and takes it home to another city via plane because she doesn't find very good ones for good prices there. But true, it's planned in advance, she brings styro box. And she has to buy the fish on the day of the flight itself, a few hours before (flight is just one hour). Our airlines put them in the luggage, but from what I know animals have a pressurized area.

When I flew to Seattle for the betta show, I brought two fish with me in breastmilk bags in my pockets. As soon as I got through security I went to the bathroom and put them in my purse where they spent the remainder of the trip.

I was even one of those random searches, I had to take off my sweater, shoes and socks and then they proceeded to molest me everywhere but my pockets
