My platys and molly used to have loads of babies like nearly every month, but for the past 2/3 months they havnt had any at all and are not even slightly pregnant..

Is there a reason for this??
I've had the water checked and its all fine.

how many males have you got in the tank cos if you havent got any then the females could have just used up their stored sperm have a good check to see wether you have got males

I have seen a general situation develop with any livebearers that I keep, and it is my specialty, when the numbers get to the point where you probably should not want any more fry, the number of fish in the tank stops changing. When I empty out most of the adults in a tank that has stagnated like that, the population in the tank explodes again for a while. I have seen this pattern with endlers, guppies, swords, mollies and platies. I am fairly new at the rarer livebearers, like goodeids and limia, so I have not had a tank get to that stocking level with them yet but would be surprised if they were very different.

goodeids will want lower stocking levels as the adualts will often kill fry if over stocked.

back to original question i agree with oldman but also feeding the best quality foods are a must.

If they are not getting enough the female will not produce any eggs.
