This is not a tropical fish, its an oranda. Its in a small tank but is healthy. i would say it is about a year an a half old. i cant see anything wrong with the fish apart from the fact it is lying upside down in the corner of the tank.

When i come into the room it swiftly rights its self, but then after a few minutes it goes back to the same corner and lies upside down again.

It is swimming normally and eating no problem, to me its like it just likes being upside down.

Anybody any ideas on what it could be or shall i just let it be.

Cheers dru

swim bladder is posible! along with tropicals, i got red cap orandas in my other tank. because of their fat shape. they can vecome prone to swim bladder. reaserch it!

As for gill movement it seems normal enough. The other fish is fine even the sensitive hong kong plecs are spot on

Classic swim bladder problem. I have seen this a few times and from what I can tell, the fish can live for years as long as the problem dosen't get any worse.

but how do i rectify the problem. Im sure the poor fish does'nt want to lying upside down for the rest of its life. it just looks so sad lying motionless on the bottom of the tank like. it also seems to only swim in a clockwise direction if that means anything.
