the cycle is finally done in my 55g. And I just wanted everybody to ok my list of fish. (and snails)

5 turbo snails
1 yellow watchman goby
2 ocellaris clowns
3 green chromis
1 royal gramma
1 flame angel

it's kind of alot of fish, but they are all small. I'm going to add them to the tank in that order as well.

Are gobys really good at cleaning sand? My sand is just covered with brown alge and spots of green.

any and all comments for appreciated

the fish list is fine but you are going to need much much more cleanup crew for a tank of this size.
1 cleanup crew per gallon. I would aim for 15 turbos, 20 hermits and the rest made up of Cerith .

Lastly, the gobies will clean your sand but they also distribute wherever they like. If you plan to have corals then these fish can be nightmares for corals as they seem to relish the chance to cover them in sand! :sly:

can I add the whole clean up crew all at once? when they do get the tank clean do I have to feed them or with they do fine eating extra food and alge?

They can be added all at once but the method i prefer to use (and alot less harsheron your wallet!) is to purchase an initial amount, say about 10 cleanup crew, then each time i visit my local shop i simply add another cleanup crew to anything that you purchase that day. Purchasing food? add a hermit to the list.. Getting that fish you have been watching? Add a cwrith snail or 2 to the purchase etc.. by doing things this way you add the crew slowly over a peroid of time. There is always an inevitable die off with cleaner and you will simply e keeping the numbers up and growing to an already established crew.

Your clean up crew nneeds no feeding, their sole job is to clean your tank and keep it a clean environment for your fish.

If you get turbos, no more than 2 (assuming we are talking turbos, as in, Mexican Turbo Snails).

Avoid Astreas as they are cool water animals, at least 99% sold at lfs are, and will die in your tank. Plus they can't right themselves when they fall and if you get hermits, they will eat them.

Instead get 10-15 trochus snails, any variety will do.

A dozen or so each of cerith snails and if you have a snadbed nassarius. You could get a handful of nerites if you find a good deal.

For hermits the safest are the scarlet reef, as they don't pester snails like other hermits do.

If you have a sandbed of more than 3" then a fighting conch is a good idea.
