started to get my tank set up, it is now set up and into its 4rd day of its fishless cycle.

what fish would look nice in my tank?

corydoras x 6
plec x 1, which type will fit in my tank nicely
some sholing fish, no idea what kind.

i also like black widow tetras & ruby sharks. are the ruby sharks too big for my tank, i think they may be.

wud quite like a busy tank, fish very active, not "full of fish".

what size tank do you have

Hi there glad to hear your doing the fishless cycle :good: it is just so much easier over all. Your stocking ideas sound pretty good. You have a nice long tank which will suite the schooling fish really well, if you like the black widow tetras you could easily do a nice school in there and maybe do a complimentary school of a smaller tetra.

You could do an awesome black tank with the fish you have mentioned :) Your tank is 113 liters so 30 US gallons. Maybe do something like -

1 Rainbow shark
8 Black Widow Tetras
12 Black Neon Tetras
6 False Julli Cory cats - or have more in the schools, leave the cories out and give the rainbow shark all of the bottom to its self.
2 L187 Bulldog plecs (maybe depending on filtration - what filter do you have?)

Wills

Have you looked at Lemon Tetras or Black Phantom Tetras, or even Emperor Tetras?

thanks for the ideas, the filter is a aqua one 1050 external filter. more ideas still welcom

The tank is approxamitely 30 gallons, or 113 liters. I wouldn't suggest that you have a pleco and corydoras. Just a personal thing. It seems like the corydoras woul be a fine clean up crew with out the pleco. Plus, plecos crean a great ammount of waste in the tank. In that size tank, there are quite a few options, really. I would suggest something along the lines of this:

3 Apistogramma- 2 females and 1 male
10 Neon Tetras
6 Corydoras
3 Platys, or sword tails- 2 females and 1 male
3-5 Danios

Of course, you could alter this stocking around a bit. You could change the neon tetras to another type of tetra, that maybe you prefer over neons. There are many types of tetras out there, so there is quite a bit to choose from. I think that it would be a beautiful tank stocked this wat, but that is just my opinion.

Danios are active little fish. The like to swin around and play tag with each other.

When the platys or sword tails breed (DO NOT KEEP BOTH OF THEM IN THE SAME TANK, THEY WILL INTERBREED) the apistogramma will eat them. Or you could keep them in a breeding trap if you would like to sell them to a LFS or just keep them.

100 litre tank, eh? OK.

Bristlenose plecs and bulldog plecs will be your best cheap option, although there are LOADS of more expensive (and attractive) plecs that stay under 5 or 6 inches.

6 corys would be fine. You could raise the numbers a bit more and have 8 if you like.

Shoaling fish? Have a look at these - dwarf rainbows, threadfin rainbows, harlequin rasboras, black neon tetras, glowlight tetras, bloodfin tetras, platinum tetras, neon tetras, cardinal tetras, micro rasboras, tiger barbs, cherry barbs . . . just some ideas to get you going.

Black widows would be fine :good: how about 6 of them?

Yes, all the sharks get too big

But its a 4ft tank I dont see a problem really? They are a territorial fish yes but a bottom dweller so its the footprint that is most important.

I agree with Wills, I think a rainbow shark would be fine :good: I have an albino rainbow shark in my 33 gal and has been in there for 3 years with 6 sterbai cories and a BN plec as fellow bottom feeders with absolutely no probs.

Just ensure you dont accidently get a red tailed black shark because the tank certainly isnt big enough for one of them with their aggressive behaviour, the rainbows although can be aggressive re no where near as bad as the RTBS

I think bristlenose and corys would be fine. Rainbow sharks although not as territorial as red tailed sharks, would in my view maybe be a little too nippy with corys and bristlenose. The sharks do like to control some portion of the bottom and may or may not become a problem. Before I would recommend a particular fish however, I might consider whether my water was basic alkaline water or soft acidic water and base my choices on fish that prefer either or.
