im hoping to start a malawi tank, instead of having a single species tank, so heres what fish i was hoping to get for a 39UK gal, can you tell me if its too risky having these type of fish together or if these fish will get too big.

really im going for color, and the least amount of aggression as possible, so...... here goes....

2x pearl of likoma (Melanochromis joanjohnsonae) 10cm
2x saulos's mbuna (Pseudotropheus saulosi) 9cm
2x electric yellow lab (Labidochromis caeruleus) 15cm

is that ok, or is it over stocked or under stocked?, if its under stocked what other type of cichlids could i have?.

i dont know if you have noticed but, im a newbie to malawi's :S

i need all the help i can get, thanks

I don't see any problem with species you have chosen but the numbers probably won't work. If you intend on keping multiple specimins of the same species you really need 3 or 4 with a 1 male to 2 or 3 female ratio.

With just 2, if you end up with 2 males they are likely to dispute territory and pretty much everything else. If you get 1 male and 1 female, the male could stress the female with constant harassment.

For a 39 gal you would really be better getting 4 labs and 4 Saulosi IMO or posssibly 3 each of all 3 species, ensuring you only get 1 male per species.

ok, thnx ferris, i will have to ggo check with my lfs, to see if they have the fish, or if they can order them for me.
appreciate it :good:
