Hi

I bought lots of new fish several weeks ao and jusy 2 weeks after most of my other fish and te new ones died. I now only have one catfish left and 2 Gourami. The gourami have just started sitting ont he bottom of the tank and havent swum for 2 days now - they are sat hugging up to each other and then the cat fish is about a cm away from them - very unusual. They seem to be hiding behind a large rock - i havent changed their diet, water or anything else. I last cleaned them 2 weeks ago after the death of all the others and they had been fine - just swimming about and chasing each other as usual

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with them?

for us to help we need to know your tank stats and the equipment you use.
how long has the tank been running and how many fish and types... if you have tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, ph.....have you used any meds at all....how long ahs the tank been running and if its new how long before adding fish....was the tank matured, ie filters allowed to make up a biological colony, which takes anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks depending on method used.
was there any other sign of illness such as reddening or spots.
what temp is the water?

Phew thats alot to find out for a novice - lol i shall tryand get some answers tonight and get back to you tomorrow. I know its an established tank - 3 years old and we last cleaned it 2 weeks ago - havent given any meds as yet and none of the fish have any spots or marks that i can see. I will do temp and nitrates etc later and get back to you.

thanks cath

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph.

First thing to look at is water quality.

it could be that with your new fish you are now overstocked and they need more oxygen in the water, or it could be that introducing so many fish at once has caused an ammonia spike so i would do a couple of water changes this week 20%?? ideally you should be doing weekly water changes to make sure your water quality is up to standard

The thread is over a year old.
