I have a few pairs of fish in my tank but not sure if it is working well. I have a male and female of both Dwarf Gourami and Sailfin Molly. Is it ok to keep one male and one female of each or should I I have gone for more female so that the male is not constantly chasing? They have only been in the tank for a few days. Will they settle or will it be too much stress for the females?

Thanks,
Mark.

i don't know about the gourami, but i know that when it comes to livebearers such as mollies you should have 2 females for every male.

Gourami's are basically like betta's adn it is one femael to male. The rule of thumb for livebearer's is 1 male to 2 females.

Bad advise.... sepecialy with Dwarf Gouramis, Gouramis are wife beaters, 3 femals to one male with pleanty of hidding places, anyless than 3 females will seriously stress the two as they will receive more "beating" and if they dont have hidding places (lots of them) they will get "beaten" to death. even more so in breading time, the male will harass the female to the point of death.

Bettas are 4-5 females to 1 male, with lots of plants and even more hidding places.

but no ones an expert in all fish, so i didn't mean to be rude to you. its just, you wouldn't want to give advise to someone that will endup in them wasting money on a single female that will die a few weeks later, plus the loss of the living thing to advice that never ment to harm.

This seems a bit of a sweeping statement. This will depend very much on the personality of the dwarf gourami. Some are fine with a couple of females. It also depends on the size of the tank. As for bettas, not all male bettas can be kept even with 4-5 females. Many betta keepers would find it safer to keep males and females apart except when breeding. There is also the risk of the females ganging up on the male.

I dont even think a male betta should be with any amount of females because it will be flaring constantly and the females may beat the male.

imo, dwarfs should be kept with a 2 females to 1 male ratio. this eases out the aggression of the male and also lowers the chance on the male being ganged up upon. regarding the bettas, yes, males should not be kept with females apart from during breeding
