Fish-in Cycle

i know their is loads of posts that are really help full on here and do agree that some people dont listen

i do and did when i first bought my tank to make matters worse the lfs actually told me about fishless cycle but dismissed it as a stupid waste of time and effort

all i was trying to say was at the top of newbie section their is a pinned fishless cycle but not one for a fish in cycle you would have less people ask the same questions about fish in cycle if it was a case of not having to serch the forum for it as most people are lazy and would rather ask a question than go and search for it

like i said some one did jump down my throat about the cycle on a different forum going on how i will kill my fish if i dont send them back or give them away and i was crewl to keep them in those conditions, that to be honest did deflate me and made me think twice about posting on the site

To me, I cannot see how these solutions-in-a-bottle work. The bacteria need to be FED and AERATED. How can this be done in a bottle? If not, then their metabolizim must be slowed down, and hence once in the bottle must at all times be kept refridgerated (and that includes time during transportation when being delivered etc).

Instant cycling in a bottle as suggested by that Wiki source - You gotta be KIDDING me!

I agree, there is very scant support for a bottled product lasting so long. It may be that there is some form of food in the bottle which is bonded to something to make it unavailable to the bacteria, but this bond gradually breaks down releasing a stream of food (though this does not aid in the oxygen requirements).

I would certainly not expect any such product to last a year outside of refrigeration. Once you are refrigerating it (and ensuring it is refrigerated from source to use) then you have just bought some re-branded BioSpira.

Instant cycling is possible so long as the bottle has the right bacteria and they are alive. Most do not. I do agree that cycled media is far better, and I am proud to say I have donated media to a newer member of this site.

True, I was sceptical but I recommend it to people because in my experience, it's always helped in trouble situations.
At work I always tell people fishless cycling is the safest way to go (and recommend this site for more info on it) , unfortunately most don't have the patience or just aren't interested enough to bother, so those people get tetra safestart.
I don't necessarily think the claims on the bottle are completely accurate, but in the past I've dumped a whole bottle into an uncycled tank with high ammonia and nitrite readings and it really does appear to instantly cycle the tank.

My thinking was that it does have a very short shelf life but it sells fast enough to make up for it.
Probably due to the fact that the bottles haven't sat on the shelf for very long, though I'm sure some batches of the bottles are probably worthless because they have been sitting in a warehouse for too long.
I'd like to try some little experiments with it at some point when I have time/space/money.
