Hi everyone!  A few years ago, a group of mine incorporated a fish into a semester-long environmental science project.  He was a cool little guy, but I can't remember what kind of fish he was and don't have contact with the group member who took him in after the project.  Could anyone identify the type of fish based on this picture?

I'm 99% certain that's a goldfish

Not all goldfish are gold, red or orange; the one in your picture looks like one that hasn't changed colour yet, as many goldfish are born brown and turn red later.

Huh, I guess I just didn't think of that because of the color, haha.  Thanks!

You're welcome :)

Do bear in mind, if you want to keep goldfish, that 'normal', single tailed goldies, like the one in your picture, really belong in ponds, not tanks, as they grow very large; up to a foot long in many cases.

'Fancy' goldfish, like moors, orandas or fantails, don't grow quite as big, but still need a tank that's around 120l and some serious filtration and water changes, as they are very messy :)

I've never been very interested in keeping goldfish, I just stumbled across that picture a while back while cleaning out my computer and got curious :)

Thanks for the tips!
