Fish Identification Please

I brought these fish form Maidenhead Aquatics St Albans on Sunday. These were sold to me as platies, however they very much look to me as Mollies.

The one on the left looks like a young platy to me, but the one on the right looks like a molly.

Right ok thanks for your reply, what would you do as these require brackish water and all I have is platies and guppies? Will these be ok?

Mollys don't need brackish water, they just need hard water.

my ph is 7.5 how does that measure up to the hardness of the water?

That probably means your water is medium on the hardness scale which is ok. It's not perfect, but they can adapt to an extent, so will probably be fine.

Many thanks for your help. I think I will have to get a couple of females for him, quite strange though as I thought Maidenhead at St Albans were meant to be the good? The gentleman that was serving me didn't have a clue.!

Don't totally take my word for it. I'm not 100% on the ID's I've given.

I'm pretty sure the one on the right is a molly.

But the one on the left...I was teetering on guppy or platy. But went for young platy.

yeah on the right is a black molly, and the left looks to be a guppy, it has a flat head whereas mollys and plattys have a higher back, like the molly on the right. strange, never seen a solid black guppy! might be a black molly x guppy hybrid! lol

just had a search and there seems to be plenty of pictures of solid black guppies so seems more plausible to me now. id say its definitely a male guppy .

Looks like I will take these back and tell them to serve me correctly!

I took these back today and Maidenhead Aquatics at St Albans counld't do enough for me. Fair play to them they replaced the fish this time for platies and gave me extra.
